Carnival Fascination arrives in Antigua

Antigua and Barbuda today welcomed the Carnival Fascination’s crew & guests to the island.
Carnival Fascination a 20 year old  cruise ship and the fourth of eight Fantasy-class Cruise ships
operated by Carnival Cruise Line, made an unscheduled call to Antigua because one of their
scheduled port of call was devastated by Hurricane Irma.

Darwin Telemaque CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, Colin C. James, CEO,
Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and Hon. Asot Michael, Minister of Tourism, Economic
Development, Investment and Energy were all onboard the ship today to welcome the crew
and guests to the island.

In his brief remarks, Minister Michael said it was an honour to welcome the Captain and guests
of the Carnival Fascination to the island 10 days after Hurricane Irma would’ve battered us and
destroyed our twin island Barbuda.

“ We are blessed that Antigua suffered minor damage, and we are devastated about the
damage and destruction of Barbuda.”

Minister Michael said he wishes to thank the Carnival Cruise Line Corporation for being the first
Cruise Line to make contact with Antigua & Barbuda in offering their support and tangible

“ Indeed this will go a long way toward helping the 1,600 Barbudans who are currently
displaced and relocated to Antigua. The relief supplies that you will bring will also be critical to
the rebuilding process in the next few months and we are indeed appreciative,” minister
Michael said.

Minister Michael went onto say that he would like to thank Captain Donato and Carnival
Fascination who by their call today to the port of St John’s, has sent the signal loud and clear
that Antigua & Barbuda is indeed open for business and by their visit to Antigua they will be
contributing towards the first steps of rebuilding Barbuda.

Captain Donato of the Carnival Fascination in his remarks said that their mission on board the
Carnival Fascination is to give support as much as they can to the island in the wake of
Hurricane Irma that completely ravaged the sister island of Barbuda.

Caption Donato said that they will be leaving supplies that will assist the displace residents of
Barbuda and they will also leave supplies in the St. Croix to supports the victims of Hurricane
Irma in the Virgin Islands.
